A large-scale NFT exhibition fair was held at BEXCO, Busan for three days from November 4th to 6th. Many domestic and foreign blockchain industry figures stepped to Busan and participated in various lectures, experiences, and auctions on the topic of NFTS.
NFT Busan 2021
NFT is a digital asset that stands for Non-Fungible Token. Currently, NFTS are being used most actively in the blockchain industry. Artists in various fields are publishing their works as NFTs, and game companies are offering Play to Earn in earnest, giving users an opportunity to make and sell items directly in the game to make profits.
NFT Busan 2021 was prepared to showcase the new technologies and trends related to NFT. About 50 related companies, including MEDIUM, operated booths to introduce technologies and services, and domestic and foreign experts held conferences on various topics such as the possibility, future, value, and utilization of NFT. In addition to NFT experience zones, there was also a unique exhibition space where artworks could be purchased by scanning the QR codes. Approximately 8,000 offline visitors attended and 13,000 people watched through real-time streaming.
NFT Auction
What drew the most attention at NFT Busan 2021 was the offline NFT auction. 'Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon', Korea's No. 70 National Treasure and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was sold for 100 million won. The 'Camel Series' by actress and painter Yun Song-Ah was also sold for 100 million won.
Meanwhile, there was an NFT that attracted a lot of attention although it was sold at a relatively cheap price of 4 million won: A photo NFT of a virtual human, 'Marie'. 'Marie' is a woman created by a domestic graphics company and that looks like 'an aspiring celebrity'. Many people were surprised to find out that an NFT with the photo of a non-existent virtual human was sold for 4 million won. In addition, various NFT works in other fields such as autographed uniforms of Korea's 2018 national soccer team, and artist Jibbizi's (from movie 'Parasite') illustrations were put up for auction.
Busan NFT 2021 attracted mass attention from those deeply interested in trends such as blockchain, cryptocurrency, and metaverse. The materializations of events and exhibitions further prove how important blockchain is for our future, and hope that these sorts of events will only become more prominent in the future.
